Dead Island: Epidemic is a multiplayer shooter with RPG and strategy elements set in the zombie apocalypse world of Dead Island. Players join three-person teams to battle rival squads while fending off waves of undead enemies. The game mixes real-time combat with base-building mechanics and character progression. Developed by Stunlock Studios for PC, it emphasized co-operative play and fast-paced encounters. A free-to-play model let players access early development builds via Steam in 2014 before the final version launched in November 2014. The game’s short lifespan and abrupt cancellation in 2015 overshadowed its ambitious genre blend. Community feedback shaped its development during the Early Access phase but couldn’t save it from being pulled mid-beta. Despite its troubled release, Epidemic experimented with merging MOBA-style teamwork with zombie survival tactics. The project’s failure to meet expectations left many of its ideas unpolished. It remains a footnote in the Dead Island series, with no active servers or continued support.
