Dead or Alive is a fast paced 3D fighting game from 1996 that brought smooth polygonal graphics and high speed combat to arcades and home consoles. Developed by Team Dead or Alive under Tecmo it pits a roster of fighters in a no holds barred tournament with brutal finishers and acrobatic moves. The Sega Saturn port arrived in 1997 preserving the arcade’s fluid mechanics while adding single player modes for solo practice. A limited edition bundle included an art book showcasing character designs which collectors still seek today. The PlayStation version later expanded the roster with new characters and special stages while maintaining the core gameplay. Critics praised its deep combo system and responsive controls which still hold up against modern fighters. Over 25 years later the game remains a staple in competitive circles with online communities keeping the matches alive through emulated play and retro tournaments.

Storyline

A massive corporation known as DOATEC (Dead or Alive Tournament Executive Committee) host a fighting competition called the Dead or Alive World Combat Championship, where fighters from all over the world can compete for the title as champion and a vast amount of money.
