Death Crimson 2: Meranito no Saidan is a follow up from Ecole Software that drops you into a side scrolling shooter with light gun roots. Released in 1999 for Dreamcast it keeps things straightforward with single player runs through spooky temples and dense forests. You blast through waves of monsters and traps using rapid fire mechanics and precise aiming. The stages escalate quickly mixing platforming and shootouts as you chase a relic through increasingly chaotic environments. This one flies under most radars but has carved out a niche among retro shooter fans. Its fast paced action and tough difficulty make it a test of reflexes with high replay value. The Dreamcast’s hardware gives it sharper visuals than its 1998 predecessor though it remains a Japanese exclusive. With no online presence or remasters it’s become a cult artifact for those who remember hunting down used carts in the early 2000s.
