"Despite my small issues with Death Mark, overall I was pretty pleased with it. Though it is a little pricey at $49.99, I feel it was a well-rounded and frightening adventure. You’ll get caught up with the plot and unraveling the mystery at the heart of the game, which will only fully reveal itself with the good ending. I spent about 10 hours beating the main game, and upon doing so with the good ending, you’ll unlock the final DLC chapter. For consoles, this DLC is absolutely free, which is even more added value. If you’re a fan of horror and want more scares on your Nintendo Switch, you really can’t go wrong with Death Mark. It satisfied this fan of Creeping Terror and was different enough to keep me interested. It’s good to know Aksys Games is still a great purveyor of quality horror."

About

Death Motel is a first-person horror game set in a dilapidated roadside motel where every shadow feels alive. Players move through crumbling hallways and sticky-floor rooms, piecing together cryptic notes and dodging flickering lights that hint at something lurking just out of sight. The pace is slow and methodical, relying on environmental tension rather than jump scares, with sound cues and dim lighting amplifying the sense of isolation. Exploration drives the experience, as players sift through decaying belongings and avoid areas where the air seems to thicken with presence. The game leans into its claustrophobic setting with precision. The motel’s maze-like layout and repetitive layouts create a disorienting effect, making even familiar spaces feel foreign. While it doesn’t reinvent horror tropes, its minimalist approach and attention to texture, peeling paint, muffled groans, the metallic tang of its soundtrack, keep the unease steady. With a 72% critic score on release, it’s a brief but effective scare that works best when played in short bursts. The Nintendo Switch port also makes it a solid choice for handheld horror sessions.
