Death Tank is a real-time 2D multiplayer shooter where players control colorful tanks battling on destructible terrain. The action unfolds across hilly landscapes that shrink as matches progress forcing players into tighter more chaotic fights. Weapons range from basic cannons to explosive traps requiring quick reflexes and terrain manipulation to outlast opponents. Matches support 2 to 7 players making every encounter a chaotic free-for-all. Originally buried as a bonus game in 1996’s PowerSlave on Sega Saturn Death Tank’s fast-paced gameplay earned it a cult following. A sequel appeared hidden in Duke Nukem 3D the following year. Though developed by Flat Games and later published by Microsoft the game’s roots trace back to independent developer Ezra Dreisbach. Its real-time mechanics and destructive environments predated similar trends in modern shooters making it a surprising influence on later multiplayer games. The 2009 Xbox 360 release brought updated visuals but retained the frantic chaos that made the original a retro favorite.
