Death’s Gambit: Afterlife is a standalone expansion that expands the original 2D Souls-like with more content and depth. New zones stretch the already punishing challenge, offering ten additional levels and a rebuilt hub. Fight six fresh bosses, experiment with 100 talents, and refine builds using new weapons and crafting options. The core loop of die-retry-grind remains intact, but the added systems let players tweak approaches between inevitable failures. The expansion’s extra story beats and multiple endings give more reason to replay. While not drastically different from the base game, the additions feel substantial enough to justify a second playthrough. It maintains the same sharp difficulty curve that earned the original praise. With cross-platform availability and a runtime that stretches past 20 hours, it’s a solid upgrade for those who want more of the same but bigger.
