About

You play as El Shipak in a world where most of Earth is underwater and giant sea creatures threaten the last human settlements. Your job is to hunt these monsters for bounties while managing a beat-up boat and scarce resources. The gameplay splits between open-sea exploration and combat sequences where you battle enemies from your ship’s deck. You can’t steer and shoot at the same time so you’ll pause your journey to take out waves of attackers. Between hunts you restock ammo fuel and take contracts at floating harbors that double as both bases and markets. Upgrades to your weapons and hull let you tackle bigger threats but the game keeps things lean with minimal distractions. The post-apocalyptic setting feels distinct for 2004 with a focus on survivalist grit over glossy sci-fi. Reviews note the combat’s simplicity but praise the satisfying progression as you patch up your ship and take down increasingly monstrous targets. With a runtime of around 10, 15 hours it’s a short but focused experience that leans into its oceanic theme without frills. The PlayStation 2 version runs smoothly and the lack of multiplayer or modern polish won’t deter fans of straightforward action titles from that era.

Storyline

In the year 2600, following a devastating war, half the Earth‘s surface lies under the ocean. The survivors of the catastrophe live in floating harbours built of flotsam and jetsam, or on ships powered by old engines. Gigantic marine monsters have suddenly appeared in the seas, roaming free and threatening the very existence of the survivors. In this society, some men have become Monster Hunters, big game bounty hunters who pursue the monsters of the deep for prize money. These men sail the seas alone, sometimes never to be seen again, while others return to the harbours victorious, bearing the remains of the slain giants. In this new world, a young Monster Hunter is just embarking on his voyage to yet uncharted waters.
