Defense of Nations puts you in the boots of a newly promoted Captain leading an international military force against endless Kaiju swarms. This shooter mixes chaotic combat with a satirical political sim where you manage budgets and navigate rivalries while defending your base. You will fire at monsters, reload, and repeat the cycle until the threat is gone or you are not. The setting mimics an 1980s world where humanity has grown so used to existential threats that bureaucracy takes over the war effort. The game stands out by treating a serious war like a paperwork nightmare. You spend as much time faking smiles and deflecting nonsense from superiors as you do shooting eldritch horrors. While the community data shows a single cooperative vote, the single-player campaign focuses on this unique balance of action and satire. It feels like a throwback to flash game classics but with a sharper political edge. You get back to blasting monsters for The Good of Humanity after dealing with the red tape.
In a fictional world very similar to ours of the 1980's, humanity suffers endless hordes of Kaiju and Abominations assaulting from all fronts. You play as a newly promoted Captain in the international military leading the defense as part of the aptly named Defense of Nations Treaty (DONT). Your job should be straightforward: shoot monster, reload, shoot again, repeat until they're all dead or you are. But after a couple decades of fighting against existential threats, it seems humanity has gotten comfortable enough—or at least familiar enough—with their situation to turn it into another giant, bureaucratic machine. Darn. Ah well, better learn how to fake a smile and deflect their nonsense so you can get back to shooting eldritch horrors in the face for The Good of Humanity️.
