Deff is a 2D platformer with handcrafted pixel art levels where you play a wheelchair-bound reaper fighting corrupted death spirits. Each level is a distinct, hand-drawn screen filled with environmental hazards, logic puzzles, and enemy types that require precise timing to defeat. Movement focuses on balancing Deff’s mobility aid with his scythe-based combat, adding a layer of tactical pacing to every jump and swing. The game’s charm comes from its quirky lore and tight controls that make every obstacle feel surmountable with practice. The story follows Deff as he hunts rogue reapers threatening the afterlife’s balance, blending dark humor with a surprisingly heartfelt revenge arc. What stands out is the attention to detail in level design, each screen feels like a mini-masterpiece with hidden pathways and clever interactions. While the difficulty spikes occasionally, the 88% Steam approval rating reflects its dedicated fanbase who praise its creativity and replay value. The wheelchair mechanic never feels tacked on, instead shaping the gameplay in ways that feel fresh and thoughtful.
The game is set nowadays, the boneless (rebel reapers) have dominated the world taking the place of humans and now Eternus (World of true reapers) is on the brink of collapse with the lack of human souls fueling the core. Deff is the only elite Death that has not corrupted itself on the boneless side but has also never had an interest in helping the grim reapers because him lives as a mercenary. After Deff took a critical attack that left him paraplegic, his desire for revenge motivated him to meet the challenge of facing the boneless to save Eternus.
