Demon Skin is a dark fantasy action RPG with hack-and-slash roots. Developed by LUDUS FUTURE and published by Buka Entertainment in 2021, it drops you into a brutal world where a disgraced warrior-turned-demon hunts an artifact to reclaim his humanity. Mixing platforming, RPG progression, and fighting game precision, it leans into two combat styles: aggressive, fast-paced strikes or methodical stance-switching. Available on PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Switch, it’s a single-player grind through demon-infested terrain, emphasizing punishing boss fights and skill-based combat. The premise is solid but the execution splits opinions, as shown by its mixed reception.
Combat is the star here, forcing you to juggle weapon swaps, stances, and timing. In hardcore mode, you’ll chain attacks with precise button inputs, shifting between stances to exploit enemy weaknesses. Casual mode simplifies things but still demands reflexes. Between battles, you’ll navigate 2D platform sections, usually straightforward but occasionally clunky. Progression hinges on upgrading your moveset and managing a resource-based stamina system. Sessions often end in frustration or triumph, given the game’s unforgiving difficulty. The blend of genres works sometimes, but the camera angles and controls can feel dated. It’s a test of endurance as much as skill.
Demon Skin’s Metacritic score of 48/100 reflects a polarized reception. PlayPile users average a 34.1% achievement unlock rate, with 41 total milestones. The rarest, "Roasting," sits at 5.20%, suggesting a steep climb for completionists. Community moods split between admiration for its ambition and annoyance at its polish. One user wrote, "The combat is addictive but the UI is a nightmare." Another noted, "Feels like a prototype trying too hard." Average playtime data is sparse, but reviews hint at a short campaign padded by optional challenges. It’s a love-it-or-loathe-it title with little middle ground.
Demon Skin thrives for players who crave combat depth over polish. The Metacritic score warns of rough edges, but 34.1% achievement completion suggests it’s beatable with persistence. At its asking price (historically around $15, $20), it’s a gamble. The rarest achievement’s 5.20% rate means mastery requires serious dedication. If you tolerate clunky mechanics and enjoy punishing difficulty, it’s worth a try. Otherwise, skip. It’s not a standout, but it carves a niche for fans of niche action-RPGs.
The darkness has got into the far off corners of the universe and threatens the world. Only the mighty Order of Wanderers whose members possess superhuman divine powers can resist that threat. One of the Wanderers witnesses a sinister ritual of restoring a powerful ancient artifact. In an attempt to break off the ceremony he gets into a flow of energy released by the artifact and instantly turns into a demon! Wanderer is now eager to regain his former appearance but to do so he needs the artifact which was stolen afterwards. The hero sets on a path to find it, fighting the hordes of demons along the way.
