About

Demonstar is a 1997 vertical scrolling shooter where you pilot a prototype starfighter through 18 levels of wave-after-wave combat. Play solo or team up for co-op as you blast through enemy ships, collect power-ups that tweak your firepower, and tackle boss battles at each stage's end. The game mixes rapid bullet-dodging action with upgrades like smart bombs, all set to a straightforward space war narrative. Despite its age, Demonstar built a lasting reputation in the shareware scene and spawned two sequels. Its parallax scrolling and tight controls earned it comparisons to classic Raiden titles, and retro shooter fans still praise its addictive difficulty curve. The game’s simple yet satisfying loop of progression and destruction made it a standout in late '90s PC gaming.

Storyline

The Terran Fleet is developing a new prototype starfighter, the RaptorX, and the player is a test pilot of that prototype. Suddenly, the Xidus Armada Fleet, the Terran Fleet's arch enemy (ever since Galactix), launches an all-out surprise attack on the Terran Fleet that catches them with their guard down, destroying all Raptor fighters in the process, save the few RaptorX prototypes which were away being tested. Now the player must battle through the Xidus Fleet alone, destroy their ultimate weapon, codenamed the DemonStar, and save the rest of the Terran Fleet.
