Depth Charge is a single-player arcade game played from the Apple II. You control a boat that moves steadily left across the screen pressing a button to drop depth charges. Each pass lets you target submarines lurking beneath the waves earning more points for hitting them at greater depths. The game gives you three passes with extra attempts unlocked hitting 600 and 900 points. The boat's automatic movement keeps the focus on quick reflexes and timing. What really clicks is the stripped-down action. No complicated mechanics just pure reaction. The simplicity doesn't dull the challenge, judging when and where to drop charges tests your focus. As an Apple II title it's a relic of early 1980s gaming but its no-frills design feels purposefully crafted. Players seeking a test of precision over strategy might find it refreshingly direct.
