Desperado 2 follows Marshall James, a Texas sheriff tasked with cleaning up the lawless town of Devil Stone. Split into two distinct sections the game starts as a side scrolling shooter where you battle outlaws and move through environments before shifting to a first person perspective inside a chaotic saloon. Topo Soft’s 1991 release blends fast paced gunplay with a straightforward mission to take down corrupt officials and criminals. Single player only with no online features. The game’s hybrid structure stood out for its time mixing genres in a way few titles attempted in the early 90s. Running on DOS ZX Spectrum and other retro platforms it offered a no frills western action experience that focused on reflexes and accuracy. While not widely discussed in modern circles its two part design and direct objectives made it a memorable entry in arcade style shooters for its era.

Storyline

1850, Devil Stone. The town's mayor, Bigpig, with the help of the bribable One Eyed Wicked and his lackey Fat Though, has turned it into what is now the meeting place and guard for the most dangerous bandits, criminals and assassins of the western Pecos. The state of Texas, fed up with the abuses committed there in the name of the Law, has agreed to send the best Sheriff ever known, Marshall James, who will have to expel all the criminals from the town, imprison Bigpig and his clique, and re-establish the Law again
