"Chinatown Detective Agency is a superbly told story with memorable characters and incredibly engaging gameplay. The unique noir-style take on Carmen Sandiego presents a strong, admirable protagonist that strives to be the hero even in the darkest of times, while provoking the question of what heroism really means. The game's case-cracking gives the player a true feeling of accomplishment and justice-served, with the added bonus of learning about interesting new topics. The game's greatness makes the fact it cannot be finished even more disappointing - without the large bugs, Chinatown would be a nearly flawless game. However, under the assumption the development team is able to make the necessary changes to the game, Chinatown Detective Agency has the potential to become a great modern point-and-click adventures."

About

DinerTown Detective Agency casts you as Bernie, a bookish sleuth tackling offbeat cases in a small-town diner. Solve zany mysteries like tracking down the culprit behind jelly donut sabotage or a wild zoo animal party. Each case involves scouring scenes for hidden clues and using collected items to eliminate suspects. The puzzles lean into slapstick humor with quirky character interactions and absurd crime scenarios. Progress reveals a larger mystery tying the town together, all while managing a list of eccentric possible perpetrators. The game stands out for its deadpan comedy and approachable hidden-object gameplay. Released in 2009, it remains a cult favorite for fans of lighthearted detective stories with a retro point-and-click feel. With cases that mix wordplay and visual searches, it balances puzzle-solving with chuckle-worthy moments. Available on PC, Mac, and Linux, it offers a breezy single-player experience that clocks in under ten hours. The charm lies in its intentionally silly cases and the satisfaction of connecting loose clues in a world where every problem seems solvable with a magnifying glass and a donut.
