About Dishonored: Definitive Edition

Arkane Studios released this acclaimed action-adventure title originally in 2012. The Definitive Edition brings the full package to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on August 25, 2015. You play as an assassin framed for a political murder in Dunwall, a grim industrial city filled with plague and strange steampunk tech. This version bundles the base game with all four DLC chapters including The Knife of Dunwall and The Brigmore Witches. It features improved visuals that run smoother on current hardware while keeping the original dark atmosphere intact. You are the only character controlling this world without any multiplayer components or co-op modes available to try alongside friends.

Gameplay

You navigate levels using a mix of stealth, parkour, and supernatural powers like blink or possession. The core loop involves scouting an area from above or through shadows before deciding how to eliminate targets. You can walk past guards or activate the Blink ability to teleport behind them. Combat feels weighty when you engage directly with weapons like muskets or crossbows. Every mission offers multiple paths through the environment, letting you choose between loud confrontations or silent infiltration. The controls respond quickly to button presses during parkour sequences across rooftops. You manage a power meter that depletes when using supernatural abilities and regenerates over time or through food items scattered throughout levels.

What Players Think

PlayPile data shows players rate this title highly with an IGDB score of 82.6 out of 100 based on 116 user reviews. Metacritic users gave it a solid 78 out of 100. The average playtime hovers around 18 hours for a standard run, while completionists spend over 35 hours hunting every achievement. Community mood reports indicate high satisfaction with the story and level design. Many users mention the replay value as a key factor since different choice outcomes change how missions play out. Critic reviews often praise the freedom of approach but note that some difficulty spikes occur in later chapters. Player retention remains strong long after release due to the deep narrative branches available.

PlayPile's Take

This package is worth the price if you want a complete story without hunting down separate DLCs. The Definitive Edition includes every piece of content Arkane made, so there is no need to buy extras later. Achievements for 100% completion are challenging but fair. It suits players who prefer slow-paced tactical gameplay over fast reflexes. The game costs roughly $20 on sale now, making it a steal for the amount of hours provided. You should play this if you enjoy atmospheric settings where your choices alter the ending. Do not expect a generic shooter with mindless shooting mechanics here.

Storyline

Dishonored is set in Dunwall, an industrial whaling city where strange steampunk-inspired technology and otherworldly forces coexist in the shadows. You are the once-trusted bodyguard of the beloved Empress. Framed for her murder, you become an infamous assassin, known only by the disturbing mask that has become your calling card. In a time of uncertainty, when the city is besieged by plague and ruled by a corrupt government armed with industrial technologies, dark forces conspire to bestow upon you abilities beyond those of any common man, but at what cost? The truth behind your betrayal is as murky as the waters surrounding the city, and the life you once had is gone forever.
