Disney's Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers 2 is a side-scrolling platformer where you control a team of anthropomorphic detectives solving a heist plot. Play as Chip, Dale, or other members of the Rescue Rangers to chase the villainous Fat Cat across levels like a fiery restaurant kitchen, a freezing refrigerator, and a haunted warehouse. The game mixes platforming challenges with light puzzle-solving, as you avoid traps, defeat enemies, and collect items to progress. Co-op mode lets two players take turns or team up, though switching characters mid-stage can feel clunky. The story is straightforward but silly, centered on recovering a cursed relic and thwarting the cat’s schemes. What sets it apart is its charm and variety. Each level has a distinct theme and hazard, from water-based sections to collapsing floors, keeping the pace fresh. Reviews from retro gaming communities note it as a solid but overlooked Capcom title, with humor that feels true to the original Rescue Rangers cartoons. Though not as polished as other 1990s platformers, it’s a brisk, family-friendly experience that highlights the era’s love of anthropomorphic antics. Released in 1993, it remains a niche pick for fans of old-school co-op gameplay and Disney’s cheekier properties.
The Rescue Rangers catch a news report stating that a bomb has been set to explode at a local restaurant. At once, Chip, Dale, Gadget, Monterey Jack, and Zipper set off to defuse the explosive before it goes off. While there, they manage to corner the rabbit responsible for setting the bomb, who admits that it was Fat Cat who ordered him to do it (having broken out of prison the night before) so he can steal a relic called the Urn of the Pharaoh from a docked cargo ship. The Rangers give chase to the docks. After a search of the ship turns up nothing, Zipper then spots Fat Cat running into a warehouse. Chip and Dale follow him inside, but are ambushed and locked in a refrigerator to freeze. Though the chipmunks escape in time, Fat Cat opens the Urn and releases the evil spirits contained within it.
