Disney's Darkwing Duck is a side-scrolling platformer where you chase down criminals as the dapper yet dim-witted crimefighter. The game splits your time between running and jumping through hazards, battling goons, and collecting puzzle pieces to map out Steelbeak's lair. Levels shift from bustling streets to shadowy sewers, each packed with traps and hidden secrets. Combat feels basic but functional, relying on quick button mashing, while the puzzle hunt adds a layer of exploration to each stage. Progress hinges on precision, missteps mean falling into bottomless pits or being squashed by rolling boulders. The game shines with its zany cartoon visuals and over-the-top character designs that pop off the screen. Though the platforming can be finicky by modern standards, the variety of level layouts keeps things fresh. It holds up as a quirky relic of early '90s gaming, offering a mix of action and light puzzle-solving that still feels rewarding. With a runtime of about four to six hours, it’s a brief but spirited romp through a world where ducks solve crimes in tuxedos.
Steelbeak has recruited some of St. Canard's dangerous criminals to help to build an ultimate crime weapon. As a result, S.H.U.S.H. requires the help of Darkwing Duck to stop them. There are few clues, except a picture of the criminals looking at stolen artwork. Darkwing must bring Steelbeak to justice by scouring the city to find puzzle pieces that reveal the villain's location.
