Disney's Stitch Experiment 626 is an action-packed platformer where you play as the mischievous alien experiment before the events of Lilo & Stitch. The game leans into Stitch's chaotic energy with gameplay that lets you dash across surfaces, grapple between points, jetpack through alien landscapes, and fire up to four weapons at once. Each level mixes platforming challenges with combat as you navigate space stations and distant planets. Familiar faces like Jumba and Gantu appear alongside new characters tied to Stitch's origins. The game stands out for its wild blend of movement options and chaotic combat. Managing four weapons while zipping around the environment demands quick reflexes, and the setting expands the movie's universe with sci-fi locations rarely seen in the franchise. While it hasn't aged well mechanically by modern standards, longtime fans of the character appreciate the direct tie to the pre-movie lore. The PS2 release remains the only version to explore Stitch's early experiments in this style.
The game takes place before the Lilo & Stitch film begins, showing the massive space universe only hinted at in the movie. The player controls Stitch, using his powers to the fullest: climbing walls and ceilings, dashing with amazing speed, shooting up to four weapons at once (one in each hand), flying with the jetpack, and swinging using the grapple gun. The game features some of the film's memorable characters, including Jumba Jookiba and Gantu, along with new characters including Dr. Habbitrale and Experiment 621 ("Chopsuey" according to franchise finale film Leroy & Stitch).
