Disney's TaleSpin is a side-scrolling shooter where you pilot Baloo's plane through levels filled with enemies and obstacles. You navigate horizontally scrolling stages, flipping the plane to backtrack when needed. Collect items for extra lives or cash, then spend your earnings to upgrade your ship between levels. Boss fights require targeting weak points, and bonus rounds shift control to Kit, who pops balloons on an airfoil. The game adapts the Disney show's premise of cargo runs interrupted by pirates, with Shere Khan's henchmen causing trouble. The NES original from 1991 retains simple but responsive controls. The Game Boy port trimmed some features but kept the core loop. Both versions later appeared in 2017's Disney Afternoon Collection. While not a critical darling at launch, fans of 90s Disney games appreciate its faithfulness to the source material. The cash-upgrade system adds a layer of strategy beyond basic shooting. Short levels and varied enemy patterns keep the action brisk, though the Game Boy version's reduced visuals feel rougher in hindsight.
This game involves the adventures of Baloo and Kit delivering cargo for Rebecca Cunningham. However, Shere Khan wants to put Rebecca out of business, so he hires the Air Pirates, led by Don Karnage, to do his dirty work. In the NES and Game Boy games, Baloo has to deliver his cargo across the world while fighting the pirates who are trying to stop him. Players control Baloo in his plane The Seaduck, except upon entry to a bonus level, where the player then controls Kit on his airfoil.
