Dizzy Down the Rapids is a side-scrolling action game where you guide Dizzy through turbulent rivers on a floating barrel. The goal is simple: dodge rocks, avoid enemy creatures, and stay afloat as the current pushes you forward. Each level introduces new hazards and tighter turns, mixing reflex-based challenges with light puzzle-solving. The gameplay feels fast and frantic, with a focus on timing jumps and spins to navigate obstacles. It borrows heavily from arcade classics but adds Dizzy’s signature charm through colorful environments and quirky character designs. The game started life as a clone of the 1980s arcade title Toobin’, developed for the Commodore 64 before being rebranded with Dizzy’s likeness. While it lacks the depth of later Dizzy titles, it’s a polished example of 90s platforming simplicity. Fans of retro action games appreciate its tight controls and replay value, though it’s often overshadowed by the series’ more inventive entries. With support for multiple 8-bit and 16-bit systems, it remains a nostalgic pick for those who cut their teeth on Codemasters’ early releases.
Dizzy Down the Rapids is an arcade style action video game that was published in 1991 by Codemasters for the Amstrad CPC, Spectrum, DOS, Atari ST, Commodore 64 and Amiga. The game involves Dizzy riding barrels down a river avoiding obstacles and enemies. This was another game derived from a minigame game found in The Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy like Bubble Dizzy. The game was based on the game play from an arcade game titled Toobin'. The C64 version was developed first by Paul Black. The C64 version was originally a clone of Toobin called 'Toobin Turles'. When the game was taken to Codemasters for consideration, it was rebranded to take advantage of the Dizzy character.
