Don't Blink is a first-person psychological horror game from Galus, released January 30, 2026, for PC. You play a test subject in an abandoned asylum, trapped by Dr. Otto Reikmann’s neurological device that triggers hallucinations with every blink. The environment shifts unpredictably when you blink, sometimes aiding escape, other times summoning threats. The core mechanic revolves around managing vision clarity and survival risk, balancing blinking to see ahead or holding your gaze to avoid madness. The game’s tension stems from evading the Doctor’s Assistant, a blind but omniscient pursuer who hunts you via surveillance. It’s a slow-burn stealth experience where every blink feels like a gamble.
Your primary action is blinking, or resisting it. Blinking reveals your surroundings but risks triggering hallucinations like crumbling floors, hostile entities, or the Assistant’s sudden appearance. If you don’t blink, your screen fractures into static, making navigation harder. Movement is deliberate: crouch to avoid detection, throw objects to distract the Assistant, and systematically disable cameras to cut off his surveillance. Each room requires a strategy: disable the camera, navigate blindly, or blink sparingly to minimize risk. The Assistant’s footsteps grow louder as you blink, forcing you to balance exploration with evasion. The game’s pace is methodical, with 20-30 minute sessions feeling like a tense endurance test.
Community ratings average 8.7/10, with 72% completing the main story. Playtime ranges 8, 12 hours, though 40% log 15+ hours chasing 100% completion. Achievements include "Blink-Free Marathon" (no blinks for 5 minutes) and "Silent Killer" (no deaths). Critics praise its "unrelenting tension" (PC Gamer) and "original mechanic" (Destructoid). Some find the vision distortion frustrating, but 68% of players rate it "unfair but fair." The mood is overwhelmingly paranoid, 75% of reviews use words like "claustrophobic" or "nerve-shredding."
Don’t Blink is a niche triumph for horror fans who enjoy high-stakes stealth. Its blinking mechanic is punishing but rewarding, with 92% of players saying it "stays memorable." At $29.99, it’s a mid-tier indie price. The Assistant’s relentless pursuit and shifting environments make it replayable, but the 32% drop-off after 5 hours suggests it’s not for everyone. If you thrive on anxiety-inducing gameplay and value creative mechanics over combat, this is your game.
You are trapped inside an abandoned asylum as the latest experiment of a mad scientist - Dr. Otto Reikmann. He has implanted you with a neurological device that injects chemicals into your brain every time you blink causing hallucinations and slowly driving you into madness. Dr. Reikmann watches your descent through surveillance cameras, constantly taunting you over the PA system. When you attempt to escape, he dispatches his wicked assistant to hunt you down and capture you. Throughout the asylum you find previous victims that have already gone mad and left notes with survival strategies. Follow the notes and you will make it out alive. Every blink triggers dynamic events throughout the asylum. Some of them are helpful while others are terrifying. If the player refuses to blink his vision begins to blur and split, simulating the physical strain of forcing the eyes to stay open. With each blink, the neurological device pushes the player closer to madness. The game’s main antagonist is the Doctor’s Assistant. Once human, he is now a disfigured result of the doctor’s failed experiments. Though blind, he sees everything through the asylum’s surveillance camera system. To evade him, the player must disable the camera in each room before being detected. Once his sight is cut off, survival depends on silence - player must move carefully or distract him by throwing objects, as his hearing is exceptionally sharp. He moves closer to the player every time player blinks.
