Dragon Ball Xenoverse - Day One Edition mixes RPG progression with 3D fighting mechanics. You create a character to navigate a story where time travelers Towa and Mira twist the Dragon Ball timeline. Battles happen in open arenas where you can fight on land air or underwater with moves that trigger voice lines and character reactions. The single player campaign lets you interact with familiar faces while unlocking new abilities and gear. Co-op and multiplayer modes add options for local or online fights. The game stands out for its detailed combat animations and the freedom to explore versions of Earth and other Dragon Ball locations. While exploration is limited to specific zones the 3D environments let you maneuver creatively during fights. Released in 2015 it ran on PS3 PS4 Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Fans noted the return of classic characters and the return to open battlefields similar to older Budokai games. Some found the story secondary to the combat but praised the customization options.
Xenoverse features an entirely original story starring the player's custom character. The story itself borrows elements from the Dragon Ball Online MMO, which sees returning villains Towa and Mira manipulating the history of the Dragon Ball universe. Time Patrol Trunks asks Shenron to send him a hero who would help him restore the timeline.
