Dragon Ball Z: Shin Butouden is a 1995 Sega Saturn fighter that lets you pick from 27 characters, all using art and animations recycled from the PlayStation game Ultimate Battle 22. The core one-on-one combat is straightforward with basic attacks and special moves, but the real focus is on its oddball extras. Group Battle lets you build a team of five to fight against another squad, while Mr. Satan mode turns matches into a crude gambling minigame where you bet on outcomes and hurl banana peels or dynamite between fights. The game stands out for its messy charm and split-screen chaos more than its mechanics. Group Battle mode is a surprisingly fun co-op twist for the time, and Mr. Satan’s debt-driven antics add a layer of ridiculousness not often seen in fighting games. While it lacks polish compared to later Z series titles, it’s a quirky relic of mid-90s Dragon Ball hype with enough personality to entertain fans of the era.
