Dragon Egg! is a side scrolling action game where you control a character who wields a literal dragon egg. Early on you bash enemies head on with the egg but defeating foes drops fire orbs that let you upgrade your weapon. Stockpile enough orbs and the egg hatches into a dragon that spits fire from a distance. As you gather more orbs the creature grows bigger increasing your attack reach and eventually giving you a short hover ability. Between levels you spend coins earned in combat at shops to buy extra orbs or tools that tweak how you tackle stages. The core loop of fighting collecting and upgrading creates a satisfying rhythm that keeps things moving. The dragon’s evolution from fragile projectile to hovering powerhouse adds layers to the platforming challenges. While it never hit mainstream charts the game carved a niche among TurboGrafx-16 collectors for its tight controls and retro charm. Now available on Wii U it offers a brisk 8 bit fix for players who enjoy incremental power scaling in linear levels.
