D.R.A.G.O.N. Force is a 1988 turn-based tactics game where you command a squad of elite soldiers through 12 high-risk missions. Each round lets you assign individual actions like moving, shooting, or using special abilities to your team members. After issuing orders, all moves execute at once against the AI’s responses. The game shifts between a strategic overview map and a detailed tactical close-up, emphasizing cover mechanics and line of sight. Players must balance direct fire, targeted shots, and triggered ambushes to secure objectives ranging from hostage rescues to sabotage missions. The depth of squad customization and battlefield planning stands out. Before each mission you pick seven soldiers from 14 options, each with distinct skills and experience levels. Environmental hazards and enemy positioning force calculated decisions under pressure. Though decades old, its blend of resource management and precise combat design has earned it a cult following among retro strategy fans. The stakes feel real whether you’re blowing up a lab or getting disavowed by your own mother.
