"If you didn't play the first Dragon Quest Heroes, then no worries, because the two are not connected in any way. Even the classic DQ characters that return from the first game make no mention of it. DQH2 is a standalone story about two cousins who live in a world that has known peace for a thousand years, but now someone is roaming around the world brewing trouble, convincing kingdoms to go to war. It's your job to solve this mystery and protect the peace. It's not a terribly intricate story, but it does feel at home in a Dragon Quest setting, and is largely enjoyable despite how nonsense it becomes towards the end."

About

Dragon Quest IV's PlayStation remake brought a fresh look and expanded story. Heartbeat overhauled the classic RPG with 3D visuals from Dragon Quest VII. New additions include an extra chapter, a fresh character, a bustling town, and party chat features. Players could manually control all characters by disabling AI. The overhauled combat and exploration retained the turn-based strategy and classic JRPG charm while adding modern polish. The remake was meant for a 2002 NA release but never came due to Heartbeat shutting down. Despite this, the game remains a fan favorite for its enhanced features and rich narrative. The PlayStation version offers a unique take on the original with its visual and gameplay upgrades. Critics praised the expanded story elements and improved party management. Many consider it one of the most overlooked entries in the franchise.
