Dragon's Lair II: Time Warp is a sequel to the 1983 arcade hit, now playable on PC and Linux. You control Dirk the Daring as he navigates time-bending levels to rescue Princess Daphne from a forced marriage. The gameplay revolves around timed decisions, miss a prompt and Dirk meets a creative demise. Each scene is animated with the same lavish hand-drawn style that defined the original, though the mechanics remain button-mash simplicity. A clunky time machine whisks you through eras, from medieval castles to jungle temples, all while a countdown clock ticks toward Daphne’s impending doom. The Director’s Cut adds a previously unseen ending and a “watch mode” for passive viewing of the animations. While Metacritic scores hover around 60, fans of pixel-perfect retro revival often highlight the polished presentation. It’s a niche pick for those who grew up with laserdisc games or want to see how Don Bluth’s classic aesthetic holds up with modern tech. The Pirate Ship Animatic bonus offers a glimpse at unused content, but don’t expect surprises, the formula is exactly as advertised.
Princess Daphne has been spirited away to a wrinkle in time by the Evil Wizard Mordroc who plans to force her into marriage. Only you, Dirk the Daring, can save her. Transported by a bumbling old time machine, you begin the rescue mission. But you must hurry, for once the Casket of Doom has opened, Mordroc will place the Death Ring upon Daphne's finger in marriage and she will be lost forever in the Time Warp!
