About

Drakkar casts you as Erik, a Viking warrior racing against time to reclaim a crown for his people. Set in a labyrinthine world split between treacherous forests and a perilous Roman-era city, the game blends exploration with brutal combat. You’ll scavenge shields, axes, and food to survive swarms of enemies ranging from tunneling rats to archers and deadly guardians. The environment itself is a foe, collapsing chandeliers, piranha-infested swamps, and angelic traps lie in wait as you navigate 150 interconnected screens. Every choice matters as you piece together the gods’ cryptic tests. What sets Drakkar apart is its dense, maze-like design and relentless pacing. The forest and city serve distinct roles: one hides clues to your path, the other tests your ability to withstand relentless attacks. With no hand-holding, players must memorize layouts and manage scarce resources carefully. Retro reviews note its punishing difficulty and inventive hazards, like venomous plants and time-sensitive objectives. For those who relish old-school problem-solving paired with punchy combat, Drakkar’s 1990s DOS release remains a niche challenge.

Storyline

Young Erik is the last of a generation of brave Viking warriors. Now is the time to prove the reason for his existence: get the crown for his people. To do this, he must maintain a tough fight against his gods, who force him to carry out his mission in a very limited time. Erik will travel on the "Drakkar" through time, and will return to Roman times where his adventures will take place. Once there, the gods will decide the fate of Erik, our brave warrior, who will tirelessly seek the throne for his people. You must fight against all kinds of enemies, from rats that inhabit the catacombs and dangerous beasts, to archers who try to skewer you with one of their arrows. Deadly guardians guard the palace rooms where Caesar is. Dense forests with a great variety of shrubs and plants will make more than one falter before reaching the city. Angels playing sweet melodies of lethal effect. Swampy lagoons with piranhas hungry for a good bite. Be careful! The bronze chandeliers will fall on your head when you least expect it. Other mysteries await Erik in old Rome, but if he is guided by the Valkyrie goddesses, he can achieve his goal.
