Duke Nukem: D-Day is a third-person shooter where the titular character jumps into a World War II timeline reshaped by alien interference. Players take on Duke as he alters key historical moments by battling Nazi forces and extraterrestrial hybrids. The game features single-player missions focused on combat and objective-based gameplay. Developed by n-Space for PlayStation 2, it leaned into over-the-top action typical of the Duke Nukem series but shifted focus to a wartime setting. The control scheme and mechanics align with 2000s-era third-person shooters, emphasizing fast-paced gunplay and explosive set pieces. The project was intended to launch before WW2-themed games became mainstream, according to developer George Broussard, who called it a missed opportunity. Despite being canceled in 2003 after four years of development, its blend of alternate history and sci-fi war elements stuck in the minds of fans. Community discussions often highlight its ambitious concept, though the unfinished state leaves details speculative. The game’s cancellation left a gap in the franchise’s legacy, but its premise remains a curious footnote in early 2000s gaming.
As described by George Broussard: “It was a PS2 game where Duke went back in time and was a key factor in all the major WW2 events, and helped turn the tide. Of course it was a kind of alternate reality and there were alien Nazi’s. I wish that game had worked out because it would have been among the very first WW2 games to come out, before you saw one in a week.”
