Dunjonquest: The Datestones of Ryn casts you as a low-ranking cavalry officer with 20 minutes to sneak into a mountain cave and recover stolen relics before escaping thieves vanish at sunset. The game unfolds in a grid-based dungeon where you move cautiously, managing resources and avoiding traps while hunting for the Datestones and the bandit leader Rex. Combat and exploration are turn-based, with permadeath looming if you fail your mission. The time pressure adds tension to every decision, forcing you to balance speed with survival. Released in 1979, this title helped shape early RPG design on platforms like the Apple II and Atari 8-bit. The 20-minute clockwork design has influenced tighter time-management mechanics in later games, though its charm lies in its raw, no-frills approach to adventuring.

But time is short, there is rumored to be a second secret entry to the cave and the sunset is not far, giving the thieves an opportunity to flee under cover of the darkness of the night. It is decided that you Brian Hammerhand, the least senior officer of the cavalry troop, will embark on a stealth mission trying to retrieve the stolen Datestones of Ryn and posssibly even bringing the head of Rex the Reaver...
