Duru is a 2D puzzle platformer where you play Tuli, a mole rat navigating underground tunnels while managing a manipulative AI companion. The game mixes colorful platforming with painting mechanics that let you alter environments. You jump, run, and use creative problem solving to overcome obstacles while dealing with Bel, a digital shadow that messes with your progress. Bel eats or moves painted objects and actively works against your goals, forcing you to adapt to its interference. The game stands out for its metaphor-driven design that ties mechanics to mental health themes. Bel’s behavior mirrors the real impact of depression, turning gameplay into a subtle commentary on coping strategies. While some puzzles feel repetitive, the narrative approach has resonated with players seeking thoughtful experiences. Released in 2023 for PC and Mac, it runs smoothly with accessible controls. The West African-inspired art style adds warmth to its challenging but brief 4-5 hour story.
