About

Duty Calls is a short-lived PC shooter that parodies military game tropes with tongue-in-cheek humor. Developed by Epic Games as a promotional tool for Bulletstorm, it mimics the formula of popular first-person shooters while exaggerating their clichés. Players take on a generic soldier tasked with stealing a nuclear bomb from Russian villains, progressing through basic levels filled with over-the-top enemy encounters. The game’s script leans into absurdity, from nonsensical item names like "meaningless stick" to military rank titles that spiral into self-mocking repetition. Released in 2011, Duty Calls stands out as a brief but sharp satire of the genre’s repetitive mechanics and hyperbolic storytelling. While not a polished experience, it gained a cult following for its deliberate awkwardness and meta humor, with fans appreciating its commitment to mocking the very games it imitates. Its single-player campaign and co-op mode offer lightweight fun for those in on the joke. Short, cheap, and unapologetically silly, it’s a curiosity piece more than a lasting title.

Storyline

It takes place in Kemerovo, Russia, and focuses around single soldier's attempt to retrieve the nuclear missile-bomb from Leader of Bad Guys. On the way, the player finds many useful items such as a "meaningless stick". He also goes up through the ranks of the military through hard work and devotion to the cause of which you are fighting for. The plot is immensely better than any other game that has been made and truly astonishes players to this day. Throughout the game, however, the game makes jokes about military roles, like: "Sergeant Sergeant Master Sergeant Shooter Person."
