Earthworm Jim is a side-scrolling action game that blends shooting and platforming mechanics. You control a sarcastic, red-suit-clad worm who zips across levels, firing weapons and solving environmental puzzles. The DSi version adds camera-based mini games where you mimic Jim's goofy expressions using the device's front-facing camera. Combat and platforming feel tight for a decade-old port with some visual polish. The face-tracking gimmick feels ahead of its time but is still gimmicky. It works better as a novelty than a core mechanic. Nostalgia plays a big role here since the DSi was one of the few places this reboot landed. Metacritic scores hover around 70, which is solid but not stellar. The game moves fast and keeps you laughing with Jim's snarky one-liners. Short levels make it easy to pick up and play in chunks, which suits the DSi audience.
