"If Capes' biggest crime is that it isn't the most original game and that its fights require more thought than some might like, then I'd call Spitfire Interactive's debut a hearty success. Within its deep tactics gameplay is plenty of exciting and creative party DNA to tool around with. It even has a surprisingly refreshing tone and take on the superhero genre that is the most authentic I've seen in a while. So why not go save the world? I promise a super duper good time awaits."

EbiTapes is a chill indie adventure game developed by Lilla Turi and published by Top Hat Studios. Released in late 2026 for PC and Mac, it blends exploration with creative sound design. You play as a character tasked with traveling through colorful, whimsical environments to gather audio clips and craft music. The game’s vibe leans casual and artistic, focusing on open-ended creativity rather than rigid objectives. Players collect sounds like rustling leaves, bubbling water, or character dialogue, then layer them into custom tracks. The narrative is light, centering on meeting quirky friends and helping them with small quests. It’s ideal for fans of relaxed, music-driven adventures like Gris or Night in the Woods.
You spend most sessions wandering through hand-painted worlds, using a handheld recorder to capture ambient sounds and character interactions. Each environment offers unique audio snippets to collect, which you later edit in a minimalist music studio. The controls are simple, mouse-driven navigation for recording, drag-and-drop for arranging clips. Gameplay loops involve exploring, completing minor tasks for NPCs, and refining your recordings into cohesive tracks. There’s no combat or time pressure; progression hinges on creativity and curiosity. The music editor lets you tweak pitch, tempo, and layering, but it’s not technical, think more about mood than precision. Sessions often feel like a digital scavenger hunt with a focus on auditory discovery.
EbiTapes holds a 4.3/5 PlayPile rating, with 72% of players completing the main story. Average playtime is 15 hours, and 85% finish within 20 hours. The community moods are overwhelmingly positive: 68% “relaxing,” 53% “creative,” and 19% “nostalgic.” Critics praise its “soothing atmosphere” and “unpretentious creativity.” Completion rates are high for a game with no combat or combat achievements, 24 achievements are available, mostly tied to collecting sounds or completing tracks. Players spend 60% of their time in the music editor, and 40% exploring. It costs $29.99, making it a mid-tier indie price. No major gripes about difficulty or bugs reported.
EbiTapes is a must-play for fans of slow-burn, creative-focused adventures. Its $29.99 price tag is justified by the freedom to shape soundscapes and the 24 achievements. It won’t appeal to action or strategy enthusiasts, but the 15-hour average playtime and 72% completion rate suggest a satisfying, accessible experience. The music editor is intuitive but not deep, so hardcore producers might find it shallow. If you enjoy experimental design and want a game that feels like a digital sketchbook, this is your pick. It’s a strong buy for $30 and under.
