"As far as homages go, Hundred Heroes is an exceptional one. That old-school sensibility is captured perfectly, almost to its detriment. The sprite art is exceptional, the voice work is fantastic, and the character designs are excellent. I wish the pacing was more modern, though. And I’d be fine with an updated approach to inventory management. But all that is what makes this such a faithful successor to the Suikoden series. Well, that and the establishment of your own kingdom full of heroes. If you’re looking for the next Suikoden game, this is it! Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is a worthy ascendant to the Suikoden throne."

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes puts you in charge of leading over one hundred distinct characters through a war-torn continent called Allraan. You build your party from scratch using a mix of soldiers, mages, and beastmen while navigating political conflicts between human nations and the expansionist Galdean Empire. The gameplay blends traditional turn-based combat with modern strategy elements, letting you customize gear and manage resources for each unit without forcing you into a single rigid playstyle. Critics have been quite generous here, with OpenCritic giving it a 75 out of 100 and noting that the team behind the project succeeded in creating a masterwork. Some reviewers even called it a memorable experience that sticks with you long after finishing the story. The game launched at a standard price but has seen its lowest point drop to around twelve dollars on indie marketplaces. With fifty-six achievements to chase, there is plenty of content to keep you engaged while you explore how your choices shape the fate of the land.
Our story begins in one corner of Allraan, a tapestry of nations with diverse cultures and values. By dint of sword, and by way of magical objects known as “rune-lenses,” the land’s history has been shaped by the alliances and aggressions of the humans, beastmen, elves, and desert people who live there. The Galdean Empire has edged out other nations and discovered a technology that amplifies the rune-lenses’ magic. Now, the Empire is scouring the continent for an artifact that will expand their power even further. It is on one such expedition that Seign Kesling, a young and gifted imperial officer, and Nowa, a boy from a remote village, meet each other and become friends. However, a twist of fate will soon drag them into the fires of war, and force them both to reexamine everything they believe to be right and true.
