About

Electroplankton turns your Nintendo DS into a creative playground where you manipulate animated plankton to generate music. Ten distinct mini-games let you draw, tap, or hum along with squirming digital creatures each tied to a different sound. Performance mode keeps you actively guiding the chaos with the stylus and touchscreen while Audience mode lets the plankton put on a show with occasional nudges from you. The focus is on experimentation more than structure turning each session into a loose jam session. What sticks is the game's oddball charm and the way it leans into the DS's hardware quirks. The microphone and dual screens feel essential not tacked on. Reviews at the time praised its inventive use of the system though modern audiences might find it niche. With a 7.5 10 average on Metacritic it remains a cult curiosity more than a classic. The blue headphones in early editions were a nice touch but not necessary to enjoy the planktonic symphony.
