Elevator Action casts you as a spy navigating a high-rise full of shifting elevators and hostile agents. Your goal is to grab documents and escape each floor, dodging enemies that pop out of doors. Use a 4-way joystick to jump, shoot, or kick your way through 30 increasingly tangled levels. The elevator system itself becomes a puzzle, figuring out which shaft connects where can mean the difference between survival and getting cornered. Two players can take turns, passing the controls as the action ramps up. This 1983 Taito classic became a staple of arcades during gaming’s golden era, praised for its tight controls and clever level design. Its minimalist 2D graphics and punchy soundtrack by Yoshio Imamura keep the focus on the frantic, strategic gameplay. Though simple by today’s standards, its mix of reflexes and planning helped it endure for years. A sequel, Elevator Action II, later expanded on the formula, but the original remains a benchmark for old-school action-puzzlers.
