Enigma is a story-driven visual novel where your choices shape a mystery steeped in isolation and secrecy. You play as Chester, a man infected with a global disease who wakes on a remote island with no memory of the outside world. Guided by a caretaker girl, you navigate a place that feels intentionally disconnected from reality. The island hides a dangerous white forest, also named Enigma, that seems alive with threats. Dialogue options and exploration steer the narrative toward one of many endings, blending personal survival with figuring out a larger enigma. The game thrives on eerie atmosphere and slow-burn tension. Players piece together fragmented clues about the disease, the island’s origins, and Chester’s role in both. While its 2015 release date means smaller community chatter, those who finish note the payoff feels earned, with twists that tie the personal and global conflicts together. The sparse but deliberate pacing may test patience, but the mystery’s core questions linger long after the credits.
The world is afflicted with a mysterious disease known as "The Enigma." Chester, infected with this disease, finds himself washed onto a lonely island, Carlyle. As he is being given a tour of the island by the girl who nursed him back to health, Chester finds himself feeling that something is off. There are no doctors from the mainland. Not only is there no information of the outside world, but the inhabitants seem entirely oblivious of the worldwide epidemic. ---It's as if this place has been completely removed from the rest of the world. After a while, Chester finds a conspicuous white forest in the middle of a green expanse. "That forest devours people. That's what I believe." The forest's name is Enigma. The same as the disease consuming his body.
