Espial is a side-scrolling shooter with clear Xevious and Star Force DNA. You pilot a ship using a joystick and fire with a button press to unleash both lasers and missiles. Missiles track the crosshair's position at launch, adding a layer of tactical aiming. The challenge comes from dodging enemy volleys and avoiding airborne hazards while clearing waves of foes. Released in 1983, it ran on arcades and budget home systems like the C64 and Atari 2600. While not impressive, it’s a polished example of 8-bit shooter design that plays smoothly and stays engaging.
