Eternam is a point-and-click adventure game wrapped in a lighthearted sci-fi premise. You play as Don Jonz, a character thrust into a galactic funpark escape after winning a dubious vacation. The game blends traditional puzzle-solving with a quirky script and pixel-art visuals. A standout mechanic is the sudden shift into a 3D dungeon-crawling minigame, clearly inspired by Infogrames’ earlier Drakkhen. The mix of 2D exploration and brief RPG-style combat creates an unusual rhythm for the genre. The game came from Hubert Chardot, known for Lovecraftian horror titles, which makes Eternam’s comedic tone feel like a deliberate contrast. Originally DOS-only in 1992, a 1993 CD-ROM version added voice acting. While not as revered as its developer’s other work, it holds a cult following for its oddball charm and experimental hybrid design. It runs on Linux and older systems, making it oddly accessible by modern standards.
Congratulations Don Jonz! You have just won a Virtual Adventure Vacation on Eternam, the biggest and best planetary Funpark in the galaxy.
