Eternum Ex is a side-scrolling platformer where a jaded knight named Arthur treks through deadly underground realms. Each of the game's five "worlds" contains five levels filled with traps, enemies, and puzzles. Players collect magical orbs while navigating increasing challenges that test timing, reflexes, and problem solving. The controls feel tight and responsive, with precise jumps and attack mechanics that reward practice. The game's steady difficulty ramp and level design stand out. Early stages teach core skills, while later ones demand mastery. Its pixel art style and chiptune soundtrack channel 80s arcade vibes without leaning on direct nostalgia. Though released in 2018, its structure feels timeless. The single-player campaign takes around 8-10 hours, with optional challenges for replayability. Available on Switch, PC, and consoles, it plays just as well with a controller as with keyboard and mouse.
Sir Arthur has gotten old... too old. He has lost everything he had and loved, and with nothing more to lose he leaves for Samarnath, an evil subterranean kingdom (which no knight has ever returned alive) in search of treasures, adventures and the most important: five magical orbs that together provide: the Eternal youth. Thanks to its progressive difficulty curve, and with a path divided into “worlds” of 5 levels each one, Eternum Ex is challenging, addictive and an ode to the nostalgia of the golden age of arcade games.
