Extinction casts you as Avil, a Sentinel battling 150-foot-tall Ravenii monsters in a world where humanity’s survival hinges on your blade. The gameplay mixes fast melee combat with strategic moments, you’ll switch between fending off swarms of smaller enemies and targeting weaknesses in hulking bosses. Each battle demands quick reflexes and smart use of abilities to dismantle foes, with a focus on brutal, up-close action. You’ll defend crumbling cities and navigate open fields while managing limited resources and adapting to waves of attackers. The skill tree adds some customization but doesn’t drastically shift the core combat loop. The challenge factor is high, especially with achievements like "Champion" locking away for just 2.2% of players. While the story is straightforward, the combat depth and variety in enemy types keep things engaging. The 27 achievements average around 12.9% unlock rates, meaning you’ll likely revisit levels for completion. Disjointed level pacing and repetitive environments occasionally drag, but the satisfying dismemberment mechanics and tough boss fights stand out. It’s a tough but satisfying romp with a strong focus on raw action.

Storyline

From time immemorial, the world has been at war. For generations, humans have fought one another for land and riches while our true enemies have lurked in the distance: throngs of ravenous monsters standing 150 feet tall that aim to destroy our kind. Only those trained in the ways of the ancient order stand a chance at defeating these monstrosities, known colloquially as "ogres." You are one of the world’s last defenders, a warrior named Avil equipped with the skill, speed and strength to oppose the endless wave of Ravenii and prevent a fate worse than death: Extinction.
