About

eXtinction is a 3D sidescrolling shooter that blends platforming with survival mechanics. You play as Nick Naster, an interplanetary agent fighting to save a planet overrun by an alien virus. The infection turns humans into hosts for extraterrestrial embryos, forcing you to navigate hostile environments while managing limited antidote supplies. Each contact with the planet’s atmosphere chips away at your health making resource management as critical as combat. The game emphasizes fast-paced shooting and precise platforming jumps often requiring quick thinking to avoid deadly hazards. The title stands out for its early 2000s approach to combining genres a rarity at the time. While not widely remembered its mix of action and survival elements feels more niche than mainstream. The virus mechanic adds tension but execution can feel clunky by modern standards. Shorter levels keep things moving though some may find the difficulty curve abrupt. It’s a forgotten entry in the shooter-platformer space better suited for fans of retro-style challenges.

Storyline

You are Nick Naster, the most talented and the best trained interplanetary agent. You've been chosen to stop an alien invasion and a virus infection on your home planet Tera 2. The scientists have discovered, that the virus infects human soldiers making them able to carry alien embryos inside them. Any contact with the planet's atmosphere will infect you unavoidably. You were given the last drops of the antidote, that was made, shortly before the biolabs on Zeta 2 have been destroyed. All records of the said antidote have been lost with it, there is no one to help you anymore.
