You play as one of four members in a ghost-busting squad chasing down supernatural threats. The game throws you into three distinct modes each with their own challenges. Training lets you practice shooting and gadgets. Arcade is fast-paced and chaotic. Adventure mode strings levels together with a loose story. You'll face off against a steady stream of creepy creatures using proton packs and explosives. The controls feel tight for a 2004 PlayStation shooter. The action never lets up even if the enemy designs start to blur together after a while. The three modes offer different ways to play but all lean into the same goofy energy. The Adventure mode is the longest with a campaign that has you hunting down the source of the paranormal outbreak. The game modes and character options were a bit ahead of their time for a niche franchise. Similis packed in enough variety to keep things from getting stale. It's a single player experience that holds up better than most early 2000s arcade ports. The March 2004 release date puts it right in the middle of the PS1's later years.
