"The thing that I appreciate the most about this game is the effort that’s put into making everything consistent. From the start menu to the end of the game you are forced into this supernatural world and the devs spared no efforts in making everything encapsulate the story. When you look at modern AAA games, you can almost guarantee that the menu will be just a list of options on a background image. With FAITH you’re met with a Latin menu that shifts with you. It doesn’t make sense and had me confused at first but it ultimately just made everything feel more connected. You can see the amount of love and care that went into crafting this game. Putting it on Nintendo Switch has just made it easier to play. I’ve got more demons to hunt and more story to uncover so this will definitely be taking up space on my Switch for the foreseeable future! There was 0 hesitation from me when it came to the awarding FAITH the Thumb Culture Platinum Award."

About Faith in Despair

Faith in Despair is an indie strategy game that blends deckbuilding with roguelike progression. Released November 12, 2025, it tasks you with crafting cards and exploiting synergies to defeat waves of demons in single-player runs. Designed for PC, Linux, and Mac, it’s a no-nonsense pick-up-and-play experience. The game’s charm lies in its tight loops of card customization and risk-reward combat. If you’ve ever enjoyed grinding combos in Slay the Spire or managing resources in Risk of Rain, this might hit your sweet spot.

Gameplay

Each run starts with a basic deck, which you expand by collecting new cards and relics. Combat is turn-based, emphasizing positioning and resource management. Demons spawn procedurally, with each wave introducing tougher enemies and unique abilities. You’ll spend most sessions tweaking card synergies, balancing between aggressive plays and defensive maneuvers. The demon board mechanic forces you to adapt, certain cards only trigger if you defeat specific enemy types. Runs last 15, 30 minutes, and death resets your deck but keeps earned upgrades.

What Players Think

PlayPile users rate it 8.7/10, with 68% completing the main campaign. Average playtime clocks in at 4.5 hours, though 22% report over 20 hours. Community moods are split: 58% label it “addictive,” while 19% call it “frustrating but fair.” Achievements (800 total) skew toward niche combos, like defeating a boss with only fire-based cards. Critics praise its depth but note a steep learning curve. One review: “It takes 10 runs to stop feeling like you’re fighting the system.”

PlayPile's Take

Faith in Despair is a solid pick for deckbuilder fans willing to invest time. At $29.99, it’s reasonably priced but demands patience, early runs feel clunky. The 800 achievements add replayability, though most are optional. Skip if you hate permadeath or want instant gratification. For those who enjoy methodically building a deck and thriving on incremental progress, it’s worth the grind. Just don’t expect a gentle onboarding.
