Fantasy Zone II is a 1987 shooter where you pilot a winged ship called Opa-Opa through a series of worlds filled with giant creatures. Your goal is to destroy each large enemy which drops currency you can spend on weapons like laser beams and multi-directional shots. Between waves swarms of smaller enemies complicate the mission. Each defeated boss might reward a dollar or a warp gate letting you navigate different areas. The challenge ramps up as you hunt for a special stop-shaped warp gate that leads to the final boss. What sets it apart is the balance of resource management and strategy. Money isn't just for buying power-ups, it's your key to accessing hidden paths and upgrading your ship. However weapons bought in the shop only last temporarily forcing you to plan purchases carefully. The game's mix of flight-based combat and ground movement offers flexibility while the need to defeat every large creature before progressing adds structure.
