About

Fatal Fury is a 1991 fighting game that helped define the one-on-one brawler genre. Play as Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard, or Joe Higashi as they battle through South Town’s gritty streets to take down criminals and corrupt bosses. The gameplay focuses on fast-paced 2D combat with simple controls that let you unleash special moves, counters, and command grabs. Each match is a test of timing and strategy as you work your way up from local toughs to the game’s main villain, Geese Howard. The title is often credited with shaping the competitive fighting game scene and remains a staple in retro arcades. Its straightforward yet deep mechanics and memorable cast have kept it relevant among fans, with some characters making appearances in later SNK titles. While the story is basic, the game’s legacy as a genre foundation stone is clear, many modern fighters still borrow from its structure. It sits on a cult classic tier, with a Metacritic score of 8.2 and a loyal following that hosts local tournaments to this day.

Storyline

The plot of Fatal Fury centers around a martial arts tournament known as the "King of Fighters" tournament, held in the fictional American city of South Town and sponsored by local crime boss Geese Howard. Ten years prior to the events of the game, Geese murdered a rival martial artist named Jeff Bogard who was on his trail. Now, Jeff's adopted sons, Terry Bogard and Andy Bogard, along with their friend Joe Higashi, enter the tournament to get their revenge on Geese.
