TYPE-MOON’s Fate/Extra is a dungeon-crawling RPG set in a parallel world linked to the Fate series. Choose a gender and one of three Servant allies, Saber, Archer, or Caster, each with distinct abilities. The game splits time between story-driven interactions and combat. During weekdays, you explore a school-like setting, talk to characters, and gather intel on rival Servants. Weekends send you into the Arena, a dungeon where turn-based battles let you grind experience and gear. Combat uses a strategic rock-paper-scissors system. Each turn you and your opponent line up six moves, Attack, Break, or Guard, that counter one another in a cycle. Positioning and timing matter as much as raw power. The game balances tactical depth with narrative choices, letting you build relationships and strategies in tandem. Though its 2010 release date feels dated, fans of turn-based mechanics and branching stories still praise its tight systems and layered character arcs.
