About Fear & Hunger 2: Termina

Fear & Hunger 2: Termina arrives as a brutal indie RPG from developer Miro Haverinen and publisher Happy Paintings. It launched on PC in December 2022 and stands apart as a grim alternative to standard fantasy tales. The setting is 1942, a world warped by occult practices and ancient deities that dominate daily life. You step into the shoes of various characters seeking answers in the cursed city of Prehevil. This single-player experience fuses turn-based combat with heavy survival mechanics. You have exactly three days before the green moon reaches its peak to uncover dark secrets. The game does not hold your hand or offer easy wins. It demands you face a hopeless atmosphere where every choice carries weight and consequences linger long after you make them.

Gameplay

Sessions involve managing scarce resources while navigating a hostile urban environment during those three critical days. Turn-based combat feels punishing because your health is easily depleted and healing items are rare. You must constantly monitor hunger, thirst, and sanity alongside traditional stats. Each character offers distinct starting abilities and backstories that change how you approach puzzles or fight enemies. Exploration requires careful planning since wandering blindly often leads to instant death or permanent injury. The game tracks your progress across multiple playthroughs with different party members revealing new narrative threads. Controls rely on standard menu interactions but the pacing feels slow and deliberate. You will spend most of your time deciding which threats to engage and which to avoid entirely.

What Players Think

Players rate this title highly despite its difficulty, holding an IGDB score of 82.9 out of 100 based on twenty-nine ratings. The community describes the vibe as oppressive and relentless with a heavy dose of hopelessness. Average playtime spans dozens of hours per character run since death is permanent and resets your progress significantly. Review snippets frequently mention the unique blend of jRPG mechanics with survival horror elements that keeps veterans engaged. Many users note that completion rates remain low because the game demands perfection in resource management. The mood within discussions often leans toward grim determination rather than typical fun. Achievements are scarce but difficult to unlock, reflecting the sheer challenge presented by the design.

PlayPile's Take

Fear & Hunger 2: Termina suits players who want a hardcore RPG without hand-holding. It is not for casual gamers seeking relaxation or quick victories. The price reflects the depth of content and the punishing nature of the mechanics. You will spend significant time dying and reloading rather than enjoying smooth progression. This title works best for those who enjoy dark lore and tactical resource allocation over flashy visuals. If you can tolerate failure as a learning tool, this game offers a memorable challenge. Otherwise, stay away from the gates of Prehevil.

Storyline

The game takes place in an alternative take on the real world, where religions and occult are a lot more prevalent and where ancient deities are still worshipped in everyday life. The year is 1942 and the world has just gone through decades of turmoil with two great wars behind and no end in sight for the despair. You can pick one of the many characters, each with their own story set around the city of Prehevil. Each character comes to the city with different motives, but it soon becomes painfully clear that things are not right in the city and it is up to you to solve the mysteries behind the horrors that took over the nearby areas. There are powers at play that go beyond human comprehension.
