Field Goal is a 1979 arcade title from Taito that swaps soccer strategy for paddle-based action. You control a horizontal bar at the bottom of the screen, bouncing a ball toward a goal defended by floating blocky figures. The objective isn’t about scoring but breaking through layers of blockers, which bounce the ball back like bricks in a digital pinball machine. The single-player mode challenges you to outlast waves of defenders while the two-player option turns it into a fast back-and-forth duel. The game’s simplicity makes it easy to pick up but tough to master. With no complex rules or slowdown, matches feel snappy and competitive. Its hybrid design, part sports sim, part breakout, has earned it a niche reputation among retro arcade fans. Despite its age, the mechanics hold up for quick bursts of pixel-perfect chaos.
